Department introduction/description:

The Department of Cardiology operates within the Maharajgunj Medical Campus, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University. Initially established as a cardiac unit under the Department of Internal Medicine, the department was formally recognized on 2066/10/21 and later relocated to the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center (MCVTC). Since its inception, the department has grown steadily, contributing significantly to medical education and cardiac healthcare in Nepal. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including MBBS, MD, and DM, and has graduated 26 DM cardiology students as of 2080 BS. These alumni contribute to various national and international healthcare institutions, with many serving as faculty members at MCVTC. The department has expanded its services in outpatient visits, noninvasive and invasive cardiac procedures, and has introduced specialized pediatric cardiology services.

To provide high-quality, patient-centered cardiac care using the latest medical technology and research advancements.

To cultivate a culture of innovation, research, and collaboration in cardiovascular medicine.

Goals:

To enhance cardiac care services, focusing on both invasive and noninvasive cardiology.

To strengthen the pediatric cardiology division and other subspecialties.

To continue producing qualified cardiologists and specialists through its DM program.

To expand the department’s research output through national and international collaborations.

To address the growing challenges in cardiovascular health, including the affordability and accessibility of care.

To introduce advanced cardiology programs, such as fellowship training in interventional cardiology, and explore future specialties like electrophysiology, nuclear cardiac imaging, and cardiac transplant services.
