Department introduction/description :

The Department of Pharmacology, Maharajgunj Medical campus, IOM, was established in 2040 B.S. Department of Clinical Pharmacology is committed to achieve and to strive for excellence in teaching, research and service. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in teaching under graduate and post graduate medical students. Apart from didactic lectures, teaching also involves interactive modules as correlation seminars, problem based learning (PBL) , computer assisted learning (CAL) module with demonstration exercises in experimental pharmacology, tutorials, group discussions on clinical oriented problems, drug display and seminars related to Pharmacology.

The Post-graduate training for resident doctors includes regular subject seminars, journal clubs, lectures for under graduate students, postings in therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) laboratory, drug and toxicological center (DTC), clinical posting in medicine and general practice/emergency department.

Our department pursues a multifaceted mission of training & excellence in the field of medical education and research. The department is seeking opportunities to collaborate with government and non-government organizations to promote drug quality and safety.

Mission –

The Department of Clinal Pharmacology has been integral to the scientific, clinical and educational missions of the Maharajgunj medical campus (MMC) , Institute of medicine (IOM). The disciplines of pharmacology and toxicology span basic mechanisms of drug discovery, action, metabolism, and distribution, along with studies of the therapeutic or adverse effects that chemicals/drugs have on biological systems. Our faculties are determined to provide a dynamic and diverse academic environment that fosters innovative, ground-breaking research in basic and clinical pharmacology, therapeutics and toxicology, promote strong evidence-based teaching and training for our students and other health care providers.

Goals-

To promote interdisciplinary graduate and post graduate clinical pharmacology education

To establish drug and toxicology center as national institute-based poison information center and promote rational use of drugs by clinician across the country

To strengthen Therapeutic drug monitoring laboratory for services including serum drug measurements and toxicology tests as well as for research and academia

To act the role of the key regional pharmacovigilance center
