Department introduction/description:

Department of ENT – Head and Neck surgery specializes in diagnosis and treatment of the diseases related to ear, nose and throat as well as voice and swallowing disorders. This also includes all the benign and malignant conditions of head and neck. Faculties are trained faculties in each sub-specialty accordingly. By using the latest technology, ENT-Head and Surgery department has been providing the best treatment at affordable price ensuring the highest standard. There is a fully functioning separate physical infrastructure under the name of Ganesh Man Singh memorial ENT building where there is ENT OPD, Ward and dedicated OT for emergency and elective cases.

ENT-Head and Neck surgery department started postgraduate MS training program from 1996 BS and BASLP program since 2009 BS. The department has 5 different specialized units and is only institution in Nepal to do so.

Unit I: Otology, Neurotology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery

Unit II: Head, Neck and Reconstructive surgery

Unit III: Pediatric ENT and Airway surgery and

Unit IV: Rhinology, Allergy and Anterior Skull Base Surgery

Unit V: Audiology and Speech Language pathology

Each unit follows monthly schedule that includes morning classes, rounds, OPDs, lectures, special clinics, OTs, on call duties and exams for the residents. Every unit is involved in various workshops organized on yearly basis. All faculty members are actively involved in research activities. Monthly departmental meeting is held where all members gather and discuss the activities, progress made and the areas for future improvements.

To develop the department as vibrant, progressive and clinically & academically one of the best department in MMC-IOM

Mission:

To help existing academic, clinical (patient care) and research works in the department and also encourage newer developments

Goals

Conduct new researches and encourage all the faculties for research and grants

Start one yearly fellowship training in sub-specialties of ENT-HNS

Curriculum preparation for starting MSALP course aiming to start the program in the department

Facilitate training of junior faculties for the upliftment of their clinical skills 

Develop of dedicated teams for onco-surgery, airway surgery and phono-surgery

Operation theatre improvements. Add one functioning OT for emergency procedures. Improve further in terms of logistics and instruments (intraoperative nerve monitor, laser, endoscope tower, otology drills, micro instruments, OT table, lights etc.)

Outpatient department improvements (proper functioning rooms with treatment units, addition of flexible endoscopes, vestibular lab expansion with addition of VEMP, furnishings and habilitation materials in unit V OPD rooms, proper facility of hearing aid distribution and making department friendly for hard of hearing)

Further development of Auditory Verbal rehabilitation for post cochlear implantation habilitation.

ENT Ward improvement (uplift the cabins in terms of furnishing and other logistics)

Give a better room and add small library for the MS ENT-HNS residents

Continue supporting all the faculty members for their best participation in student teaching learning activities (theory/practical classes, thesis guides/co-guides, various dissection workshops etc.)
