Department of General Practice as HOD .

Our program is First Post Graduate Program MD (GP) from 1982AD in this country, because of the high demand of such in  Ministry of Health, Nepal Govt for all districts of Nepal. We have previous past 10-14 residents per year on demand  on request by Medical council and ministry health. But from last year we have the numbers of MD GP &EM 4 Residents .

Our Dept has been already running program of DM Emergency Medicine course first in South East Asia since Sep 2011 AD . Till now 9 DM Emergency Medicine graduated and 2 are in program, runs under the department of General Practice.

However, We were seeing on average 55,400 patients per year in under the program of MD General Practice & Emergency Medicine. Where we are doing

  1. General Health check up unit.
  2.  Out patients morning 75 new quota & unlimited old, and day 20 new quota & old unlimited  follow up cases,
  3. Staff Clinic
  4. Emergency observation ward 23 beds , including 2 staffs beds

 After getting services from Emergency basic treatment and 4.5% are admitted in observation ward of this Hospital, GP OPD, Staff Clinic & General Health Check up Clinic.

This department has been providing quality services since time of establishment of department in TU Teaching Hospital since 1982 AD, Till date 313 MD GP &EM graduated including 24 student from Christian Academic of Medical Science, CMC Vellore India whose certificate had been awarded from Institute of Medicine. This was the only Post graduate program which were collaboration in India. Since establishing emergency room in TUTH, General Practice specialist are providing continue their services in  Observation ward room.

This department started General Health check up clinic with facilities of blood draw and ECG within the clinic and USG & X ray chest  in Ganesh Man Building, make very comfortable for those patients visiting for General check up, providing reports in two days. Since 2001,

 ( Category II :test including CBC, Sugar, urea, creatinine, uric acid, SGPT, lipfd profile, VDRL, urine RE, stool RE, ECG, X ray chest ,USG, in 3000 rs and blood grouping.( EHS 4000rs), and cat III including TFT in 4000(EHS 5000) foreigner other than SAARC 6000(EHS 8000).

Category I CBC, Sugar, urea, sgpt, VDRL, urine RE, stool RE, X ray chest, ECG, blood grouping, in 2000 rs.( EHS 3000rs), foreigner other than SAARC 4000 (ehs 6000).

we are providing General Practice outpatient services. General practice OPD started dayshift also from this year 2071 Baisakh.(April 2014) Simultaneously we are happy to share the loads of other departments. As flow of patients increases in emergency room day by day, this dept felt to have more spacious emergency room. On initiation of this department, (faculty, nursing and staffs), new emergency service is running smoothly from first 1 falgun 2068 (12thfeb 2012). For this we are heartily obliged to Mr Min Bahadur Gurung ,owner of Bhat Bhatani, chain of supermarket, and to authorities of our Institute, Dean, Hospital Executive Director as well as Campus Chief of Maharajgunj Medical campus. After that, patients came to emergency felt very comfortable, care, spacious, clean.

Various Academic Activities of Department:

1.  DM Emergency Medicine Program started in September 2011(Bhadra 2068BS) with 2 seats. Till today, Nine  DM candidates have successfully completed the course in consecutive years 2014, 2015 and 2017, 2018,2019 ,2022, 2023 three  of them in the TUTH, MMC as faculty members, currently there are 1 DM residents, is  in 2nd year and 1in first year.

2. MD GP &EM  Post Graduate Program: Currently there are 8  MD GP&EM students appeared in exam in this year (2021-2024) batch. Now total residents in 3rd year 8,  2nd  year 6, 1st year 4, make together 18 residents (MMC)  and 8 medical colleges having GP & EM program, including NAIHS, UCMS, GMC, NMC, CMC, KIST, JANAKI  total 31 seats in this year.

3. MBBS program: – This department takes care on regular basis to Junior Intern posting in MD General Practice & Emergency Medicine program for 7 days. Student has to present one bed side case before completing posting, marks will add into surgery subject. And 15 days in Internship period

4. MD Clinical Pharmacology for 1.5 months

5. BAMS Bachelor Ayurvedic Medical Science for 3 weeks.

6. Bachelor in Pharmacology

7. B SC MIT course: taking theory as well as practical sessions on regular basis.

Anesthesia +ICU , Emergency , GHC and GP OPD ,

III). MBBS program,

This department takes care on regular basis to Junior Intern posting in emergency room for7 days.  Student has to present one bed side case before completing posting and internship for 15 days
