    • Department introduction/description:

Every child that seeks treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) under the Institute of Medicine should come out with smile in their faces. “Child health services should be children friendly” is the motto coined by its visionary pioneers who have paved the foundation of the present-day Department of Pediatrics. The Department provides services in the areas of general pediatrics, pediatric emergencies, immunization, neonatal health and intensive care for critically ill neonates and children. The department has also taken a step forward in providing services in few pediatric subspecialties; Neurology and development, Nephrology, Gastroenterology including Hepatology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, etc.

The Pediatric department team, comprising of 13 pediatricians in faculty positions, two clinical registrars, residents of the MD Pediatrics Program and nursing staff is committed to the care of children seeking services at TUTH. In addition to its organized undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, the department has taken a lead in the field of research in collaboration with national and leading international research institutes around the world.

The Department in collaboration with internationally acclaimed institutions such as University of Bergen, Norway, John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Center for Disease Control, Atlanta (USA), Oxford University (UK), WHO, Geneva, have been conducting research on pertinent issues related to child health and published articles in several peer reviewed journals of good standing. At present, there are several research projects ongoing under the department’s leadership. We value partnership, team spirit, demand and time-based societal learning and educational stewardship.
