  • Department introduction/description :

Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging has been an integral component of Maharajgunj Medical Campus as well as Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital from their establishment.

Currently, this department is running various Bachelor and Master’s programs on Medical Imaging Technology and Radiodiagnosis and Imaging. Department started with certificate level programs in radiography (1793) and in due course developed DMRD (1988), B.Sc. MIT (2001), MDRD (1998) and M.Sc. MIT (2012) courses. Recently Fellowships in various subspecialties of radiology has been started in this department (2024). The department is also planning to start DM courses in Diagnostic and interventional Neuroradiology; and Vascular and Interventional Radiology. Besides, this department is helping other medical and paramedical specialties of Institute of Medicine to train in related radiological aspects of corresponding specialties.

Currently, this department is providing wide range of radiological services with digital radiography, digital mammography, Digital Fluoroscopy, Ultrasonography, Multislice CT, 1.5T MRI as well as dedicated Interventional Radiology suite. It has been referral center for these services from every corner of Nepal.

Besides clinical works and regular academic activities, it has been collaborating with various international institutes for regular academic activities (virtual as well as onsite). It has been regularly organizing CMEs and Workshops as well.

  • Department vision, mission and goals:

Vision: To lead the country in radiology by defying the status quo in a collaborative work environment that promotes team wellness and diversity. The department focuses on providing compassionate, equitable care, delivering impactful training, and outstanding clinical care, innovation in imaging research, and excellence in teaching and mentoring. The department is also collaborating with international institutes for upgrading academics of this department as well as other institutions of Nepal. The department is looking forward to develop subspecialty practices in Radiology as well. Recently Fellowships in Women’s Imaging and Musculoskeletal Imaging are running in this department and is planning to start Fellowship in Body Imaging as well DM courses in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroraradiology as well as Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Mission: To be at the forefront of radiological diagnosis, treatment, training, and research. Our department focuses on Training and educating radiologists, technologists, and staff to be effective partners with the rest of the care team and leaders in the field of radiology. The department plans to upgrade the field of Radiology with subspecialty practices.
