Workshop on Scientific Research Writing and Publication in Ophthalmology and Optometry

Under the generous grant support of Maharajgunj Medical Campus, the Department of Ophthalmology in collaboration with the Research Cell Unit of B.P. Koirala Lions Centre for Ophthalmic Studies (BPKLCOS), Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, organized a Workshop on Scientific Research Writing and Publication in Ophthalmology and Optometry on 12 June 2026 (29th Jestha 2083).

The workshop aimed to strengthen competencies in scientific writing, publication ethics, journal selection, data presentation, reference management, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in research mainly focusing the ophthalmic literature. The program featured expert sessions by distinguished faculty members and professionals Dr Ranju Kharel Sitaula, Dr Lava Shrestha, Dr Pradeep Raj Regmi and Dr Gauri Shankar Shrestha from MMC; Mr Susan Man Shrestha from the Central Department of Public Health and Ms Elina Khatri from Nepal Health Research Council.

The program included interactive sessions and hands-on training in reference management, providing practical experience in citation and bibliography management. A total of 85 participants, including ophthalmology residents, optometry students, and faculty members, attended the workshop. Through discussions and practical learning activities, participants gained valuable insights into scientific publishing and ethical scholarly communication, contributing to research capacity building in ophthalmology and optometry.
